At one point or another, you’ve probably been told that good posture is good for you. While this is true, many people can’t tell you WHY having good posture is good for your body. 

A strong body is directly associated with a strong mind. This is why our Shift Transformation Programs implement brain-based movement in its foundation.  

It takes a strong mind to build a strong body, and a strong body to build a strong mind.

How you carry your body in space can impact your thoughts and emotions. 

We take non verbal communication cues from people we’re interacting with. This starts with our posture. We’re considered to lack confidence when we have a slumped upper back and rounded shoulders. Many people are concerned they’re deveoping a dowagers hump due to their poor postural habits. How we carry ourselved can change the way we’re preceived by others and ourselves.  

You can increase your confidence by simply sitting up straight and tall. 

FUNCTION

Ninety percent of pain is associated with muscle imbalances. 

These imbalances are caused by accidents, injuries, surgeries, poor posture, repetitive movement and habits. Over time this changes how our bodies function. Some muscles get overused and tights, while others become underused and weak. Imbalances lead to changes in our movement patterns which leaves us open to injury and strain. 

FEEL

Pain Hurts! 

We stop doing the things we love because of headaches, body aches and fear of hurting ourselves because we already hurt. The mental and physical tool on our bodies add to our struggle. 

Over time, poor posture leads to pain. Tension and stress in the upper back are often associated with long days spent in front of a computer screen. Poor posture in your neck, shoulders, core, hips and feet can lead to distortions and pain in many of these joints and the muscles that support them. We can shift our posture, muscle imbalances and habits to get rid of our pain.

A picture is worth a thousand words

This is a picture of me 24 years ago at the height of my own pain. You can see my head leaning forward, shoulders curled in, left hand in a fist and my feet turned outward. I was a desk worker for years and posture was not something I ever thought about. 

Over the 2 years as a chronic pain patient, I was prescribed medications, physical therapy, multiple testings, chiropractic care and even surgery. After returning to work after surgery, within one month my tingling, numbness and pain symptoms returned, leaving me devastated and frustrated. I still did not have a good quality of life and had  lost time and money with no results.

What they never did, was to look at me from head to toe focusing on my posture.  

This is the driving force of why these Shift transformation programs are so important to me.  I want to bring awareness that our posture can affect your quality of life.  Taking back our control with education and proper movement is the first step.  

That quest for knowledge and wanting to  help my clients MORE led me to American Posture Institute.  API is only online continuing education school for chiropractors around the globe.  With special permission, I was one of the first of 12 students in their Master Posture Practitioner Program in 2020.  Within one year I completed: Certified Posture Expert, Certified Neurologist, Certified Pediatric Posture Specialist and Certified Ergonomonist.  Each of these courses helped me to dive deeper into the complexities of our bodies and movement. 

Shift Your Posture 12-Week Transformation Programs

Transformation does not happen overnight. True lasting change takes time, and effort. Muscle memory takes time to build. We need build a plan appropriate to your body and your posture with adjustments along the journey.

There are multiple components to building better postural fitness:

Posture Images and Assessments

We begin with a visual image of your posture. These clothed posture image photos are taken with state of the art software. They will be analyzed to identify posture and movement patterns. Functional Posture Health Scores will also give an assessment of how far you have come in the transformation. Multiple images are take during the 12 week program to capture your healing progress and changes.

Conditioning and Exercise

Exercises for our posture are much more subtle than traditional exercise and require a different level of focus. You need to know the right exercises to help you stabilize at this stage of your life with activity and build better posture. We also discuss Posture Habit Re-Education Activities we perform every day have an impact on our posture. This picture is an example using the Shroth Bar.
