About Tammy Shaw-Sykes

Supportive – Holistic – Integrative – Functional – Therapies

PERSONAL VISION Tammy Shaw-Sykes is a Licensed Massage Therapist, Certified Myoskeletal Therapist, Certified Personal Trainer and Yoga Instructor in addition to advanced continuing education. Tammy’s advanced education includes Orthopedic Massage and Orthopedic Exercise. Tammy’s passion is Shifting others from a place of pain or stress and into Functional Movement. She continues to stay on top of the latest research and developments in all areas related to structural therapies, nutrition, pain management and performance related issues. Her belief is that fitness comes from within and it can start with proper eating habits.
Tammy’s advanced training is helpful as she teaches yoga to Special Needs Adults and Senior Fitness Classes out in the community each week.
Continuing Education
Tammy holds Associates of Science degrees in both Advanced Clinical Massage Therapy and Personal Training. With over 1400 Clinical hours in Massage she continued with Personal Training and Yoga for over 2000 Clinical Hours.
Each year Tammy studies with top educators in the world with 200-300 educational hours to provide her clients the best support both on the massage table and in active daily life. She studies in massage, personal training, nutrition and yoga.
Myoskeletal Alignment Therapy (MAT)
Tammy takes pride in working with some of the most difficult disorders and diseases including Fibromyalgia, Primary Lateral Sclorosis(PLS), traumatic brain injury, Anklosing Spondyolitis, scoliosis, cancer patients, nerve pathologies, arthritis, muscle imbalances, Type II Diabetes, degenerative disc disease and many other conditions.
She is currently working on her Master’s in Myoskeletal Alignment Therapy.
Tammy’s work in Information Technologies and data entry for 20+ years gives her an understanding of deadlines and high stress in a career you love. Self-care and ergonomics were not something that was well known or stressed then. The result of that was many issues including chronic back pain, carpal tunnel symptoms, numbness in hands, constant pain in one hand, tendonitis and lack of sleep with the final diagnosis of Fibromyalgia only to be added with arthritis in both knees due to a car accident.
As a “Recovering Couch Potato” Tammy brings a quest for knowledge and understanding with wanting to educate her clients with hope, results, and safer functional movements. She supports those that run on the streets, play soccer outdoors and in, go to the gym but also provides a place of support for low impact movements such as dance and yoga. She teaches East Coast Swing Lessons, Yoga, Latin Dance and Personal Training one on one and small group training. She can also be found attending dance classes in addition to dancing in community and playing Wallyball several times a week.
She has brought in other experienced teachers that teach ATS Belly Dancing, Salsa (Cuban Style), and Salsa (Columbian Style).
